Description: Vintage Reed & Barton Silver Wheat Sterling 37 Piece Silverware with Chest I purchased this from an Estate Sale and do not have any expertise with flatware. I did my best to include photos so you know exactly what you are getting. I am not sure if the plastic serving handles are sterling, but they look and feel identical to the knives handles. Note: Chest shows Marshall Fields and Company. I have had quite a few questions about overall weight, so I’ll try to put some perspective on the silver value. If I have misstated the calculations, please let me know. Total weight less 2 plastic items and knives which have only the handles as Sterling. 43 oz. I am going to assume that the 8 handles are at least another oz., probably more, but 44 oz. total. 44 oz. X .925 (sterling silver content) = 40.7 oz. Spot Silver is approx.. $28.00 and even round coins have a $2.00 mark up, so assume $30.00 if you buying an oz of silver. 40.7 X 30 = $1221.00 You are paying a small premium to have a nice set of Sterling Flatware.FREE SHIPPING Really nice set, hope you enjoy.
