Description: Estate purchase, as found. Origin/age unknown, but from an estate of avid world travelers who brought back relics and cultural souvenirs from the places they visited. Rope inserted through the top holes allow for hanging on the wall. However, this really reminds me of a piece that would be hung around the neck as part of ceremonial dress. I love the bulging eyes, gnarly teeth and diablo ‘hornlettes’. Appears to be made of red clay, but the left ear and horn show white underneath (either dried glue or a different clay was used for the appendage pieces)? Whether a relic or a souvenir, its an interesting piece that is likely to capture the attention of many. The green arrows show the repairs…it was broken in many pieces. Repairs could have been done better. I have had luck in the past in removing formerly glued repairs by applying an ice cube along the glue seams…(the cold degrades the glue)…then re-attaching in a neater/cleaner fashion. Or, leave as is for that reconstructed relic look!
