Description: THREE LATE EDO PATINATED BRONZE & MIXED METAL KATANA FUCHI Choice 225+ year old sword fittings displaying marvelous shakudo work. Products of master Japanese metalworker artisans. Fuchi is the metal bordering piece between the swords tsuba (guard) and tsuka (handle). The fuchi finishes the starting point of the handle wrap, capping the end of the wooden tsuka. Fuchi can be a very simple metal band. However, in high-end sensai grade katana, the fuchi is a work of art by master artisans. Decorative elements of the fuchi typically compliment the kashira (cap) on the other end of the guard. NOTE: The last photograph depicts the offered three bronze fuchi, along with two earlier iron specimens, also available through Select and Superior. The larger of these katana fittings decorated with a stylized mountain landscape is signed.
