Description: Panama to USA cover La Pollera 3 cent overprint UPU canceled 1937 w/ slogan cancelation to W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co., Ft. Madison, Iowa I am going through some of my late grandfather's possessions, and he has some interesting postage stamps and envelopes. Grandpa lived in Ft. Madison, Iowa, where Sheaffer Pen Company was and still is headquartered. At the time, fine pens like theirs were often sold in jewelry stores, so Grandpa had envelopes from lots of jewelers, bookstores and stationers around the world that must have once held payments or orders. This posted envelope was slit at the top and right edge with a letter opener to remove contents. Envelope is from the National City Bank of New York in Panama to W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa. 3 centesimos La Pollera stamp with UPU overprint is clear and in nice condition. Normal handling wear. Yellowing to glue. Postmarked 28 September 1937, Agencia Postal, Panama. Postmark has a map of Panama and the words:"Republica DePanamaPuente del' Mundo" At the time of sending, the Panama Canal had been open for only 23 years, after the French had abandoned their effort to create the passage. I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
