Please pay close attention to the Pattern #4985 (the oldest one) since Noritake has several Goldkin patterns. CONDITION: While this bowl set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks & no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The rimmed dessert bowls have a diameter of 5 5/8" with a height of 1 1/4". HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this piece is the gold M-in-Wreath Mark with Noritake on the top. Under that is "Japan". In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. Spain identifies this mark as #47.2 which was used 1933-1953. The Goldkin pattern was produced from 1948-1975. So, the limits the time period for this set to 1948-1953.
