Description: Beautiful Hirado porcelain Japanese Monkey group from the late Edo - early Meiji Period.Hirado wares are one of the most prestigious porcelain production ever made in Japan. Justly praised for the delicate beauty of the wares produced in the region.The kilns were started in the early 17th Century and owned by the Feudal Hirado "Diamyo" family where much of the early production was made exclusively for the Hirado Domain. The main kilns were at Mikawichi, Sasebo and Nagasaki.During the 18th Century the kilns started to produce wares for the Japanese market and then also for the export markets. It is said that during the late 18th Century and early 19th Century Hirado wares were the very finest ceramics produced in Japan.Good examples of these figurines produced in the late Edo to early Meiji period are quite rare to find.
