Description: HISTORICAL HENRY DISSTON EAGLE MEDALLION & SON ETCH SAW 1865Here is a rare Henry Disston 1865 saw. A Henry Disston 26” No. 7 CC saw. It is the saw that started it all for Henry Disston and this one is a very important and rare saw. It is very rare when you can pinpoint an antique to an exact date. Here is such a case. Disston started using an etch logo on his saws in 1865, before that they were stamped. Yet also in 1865 Henry Disston’s son, Hamilton, returned from the Civil War and officially joined the family business in management. Thus, the name was changed to “DISSTON AND SON”. Thus the etch changed in 1865, and finding a "Henry Disston & Son" etched saw with a HENRY DISSTON eagle medallion is very rare. As they were using up the Disston eagle medallions in 1865 before changing to the newer Disston & Son medallion. Thus this saw was made in the second half of 1865. The Disstonian website says that a few exist. Well here is one. The beech wood handle is in fine condition with good horns with a little chipping at the top horn. The handle has not been removed from the saw plate and the sanding marks on the hardware match the sanding marks on the beech wood. The deep set eagle medallion is crisp and unbuggered. The saw plate is in good clean condition, dark from age and uncleaned - and a clear etch. The nib up front is full size. I have not sharpened this saw as I see it as a historical saw for a collection. Yet the teeth are in good shape with two being short. A very historical saw. This is a piece of history that you become the new caretaker of – preserving its perfection for future generations to study. I have recently been selling many tools from my collection in fine condition to woodworkers who have emailed me with compliments on the quality of the tools and their ready to use condition. I am a retired shop teacher, woodworker, and tool collector for over 25 years. I am a long time active member of many antique tool organizations including EAIA, Mid-West & CRAFTS of NJ. I was President of CRAFTS for over 10 years. I know antique hand tools and use them in my shop every day. I use many pictures as they are worth a thousand words and count on them as part of my description. So look them over for all the little details they reveal. I have been selling antique tools continuously on eBay since 1998 and enjoy the friendship of my buyers. Now I venture into selling tools on my own website.
