Description: Dierama reynoldsii Hare Bells Naturally found growing in high-altitude grasslands of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, in loamy soil with plenty of moisture. The attractive plants arise from corms, with single tufts (sometimes with 2-3) of thin, strap-like leaves, growing to 3 feet tall. The silvery flower stalks can attain a height of 5-6 feet, and arch gracefully. The dark magenta-purple, goblet-shaped flowers emerge from silver, papery bracts, and hang from long, thread-like stems - bouncing and bobbing in the breeze. A wonderful garden perennial that will gradually form a nice clump, with a base of stalks over 12"+ across, and dozens of flower stems. Very graceful and beautiful. Hardy to zone 8. Will tolerate some heat and even drying out a bit, but really prefers staying moist in mild climates. Regular feeding is recommended. May be semi-deciduous in colder climates. I have been growing rare and exotic plants for nearly 50 years, and take great pride in what I grow and ship. All photos are of plants in my own garden and collection (unless stated otherwise).
