Please excuse any glare in the photos. In an impressionistic style, this painting depicts a lake with trees beyond; the foliage is reflected in the still water. The board measures approximately 8 7/8 inches by 11 7/8 inches. The sight area is slightly smaller. The painting has a gold-finished, wooden frame. The exterior frame dimensions are approximately 13 3/4 inches by 16 11/16 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs 2 pounds 1.5 ounces. It would be a wonderful addition to a collection of California fine art Identification This piece is by Charles Waldman (1949-), a listed California artist on askART. Verso, it is numbered and titled, "34-03 COLLEGE LAKE (STUDY) en plein air." The "03" part of the numerical marking probably indicates a creation date of 2003. The artist's name and his address in Sonora, California are stamped on the back. Per the artist's website, Waldman was born in Oakland, California, but grew up in nearby Lafayette. Although he was interested in art, he completed medical studies at UC Davis; he established a medical practice in 1978, where he worked for about 22 years. In 1999, he closed the medical practice to pursue a new career as a full-time artist. In 1987, Waldman's friend, the well known landscape painter Heinie Hartwig, urged him to begin painting in oils. While attending painting workshops in 1990 and 1993 with Clyde Aspevig, Waldman began to hone his painting style; he also painted with Ted Goerschner for a week in 1996. Waldman paints en plein air in the Sierra Nevada mountains and foothills, along the California coast, and in other western locales. Condition The painting looks very good overall; it is clean and without damage. The frame also looks good, with light wear; it has a few tiny flakes to its upper edge at the rear.
