Description: A very nice Wakizashi from the Edo Period with beautiful choji temper line. Unsigned (mumei). Great candidate for upcoming NTHK Shinsa at the Orlando Japanese Sword Show. I guarantee it will get papers. I think it will paper to Tanba Yoshimichi. The first Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi was the 3rd son of Kanemichi in Mino. He moved to Kyoto in 1559, then received the name as “Tanba no Kami” in 1595. His swords were seen by 1634, and then passed away in 1635 or 1636. He was called as “Hokake Tanba” because one of his Kanji character 丹 (Tan) looks similar to 帆 (Ho) of 帆掛 (Hokake) which means “Sail”. Notice how the first character in the name engraved on the tang is of the shape of a sail. It is very healthy with no fatal flaws. Polish is scratched, but still quite enjoyable. The choji hamon is flowing and violent. The forging shows exceptional skill. Koshirae: The habaki is very nice and is original. The saya must be original because of the perfect fit. The tsuba is authentic and old, but looks like it was replaced. It probably once had a nicer tsuba. This wakizashi should get good menuki and a handle wrap (tsuka maki). I can point you in the right direction for that. Nagasa: 37cm.
