1989 Land Rover Defender

Description: THE VIN WAS NOT ACCEPTED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN BRITAIN. HERE IS THE CORRECT VIN/SERIAL NUMBER THAT THE VEHICLE IS TITLED WITH IN GEORGIA. ALSO THERE IS A PICTURE OF THE VIN PLATE INCLUDED ABOVE: VIN/SERIAL NUMBER: SALLDHMC7EA325361 I am selling because I spent the first year of ownership engine swapping someone else's truck as a favor and the second year of ownership remediating a major mold issue at my house. I am now pretty broke and don't have the time or money to pour into restoring this thing. I have tried to include as much as I can remember but this should not be considered a comprehensive list or a guarantee of any kind, it is a really solid truck though. If I were to restore it, here is Phase I of what I would do: - Replace/Repair bulkhead - Replace engine with 200/300 TDI and power steering (using existing or spare LT77 as mentioned below)- sand down and re-spray doors to color match the rest of the body- Install 2" OME lift kit with new steering components to match - Install Detroit Eaton Rear Locker with HD half shafts.- (Optional) Install Ministry of Defender A/C system You are now ready to conquer 90% or more of the most extreme off-road challenges (in style no less!). I am happy to meet in-person to finalize the transaction at a local bank (Atlanta, GA) or similar situation. Let me know if you have any questions or would like additional pictures of anything. I have Driving videos that I can send and a video showing my shifting the gears. Thanks! The Details:- 5-Speed LT77 manual transmission- LT230 transfer case- 12J 2.5L NA diesel engine. - "5" Door 1989 Defender 110 Right Hand Drive The Good:- Low cost basis, lots of character! This is an old Ministry of Defense vehicle from the UK (Army Depot to Air Force service). I have a British Motor Vehicle History Certificate I can share upon request. - Clean GA Title and Registration - Runs great, starts right up. - Improvements since I purchased it 2 years ago include: a new fuel hand pump on the 12J engine, new starter motor. Replaced bonnet release cable. Replaced fuses. Replaced brake booster and replaced rear drum brakes (drum, shoes, springs, and brake cylinders on each side, and air bled the system). Also installed a terrafirma steering guard with pull tabs and shackles for off-roading. Re-wired much of the engine. Added "modified" terrafirma spacers and HD drive flanges, and increased the tire size (these should fit alloy wheels if you install button-cap drive flange bolts so that the alloy wheels will fully "seat" on the wheel spacer surface, there is currently about a 1/4" of space with the existing drive flange bolts, my understanding is this is only an issue on the front wheels not the rear). Tires are old stock but pretty good tread. Re-greased the front wheel bearings. Added OEM headlamp guards, and a bull bar and restored/re-sprayed the front bumper. - Interior is in pretty good shape with three "fold-down" seats in the middle and classic bench seating in the back. Appears to be black vinyl leather, front seats have some tears and are cloth. There are also solid door cards, roof liner, and other items that are usually trashed in these cars but this one is pretty clean! Dash is also in good shape but with some minor wear and showing its age. - Came with the reinforced style black wheel arches. These are apparently very hard to find now and are in great shape, preferred for off-road compared to the painted-style arches. The Bad:- 5th gear no longer engages, it still goes 55-65 mph on highway but needs momentum for steep hills because the 12J is not that powerful. I have a spare LT77 transmission that was working when it was pulled, but has not been rebuilt. I will add this to the sale for an additional $300. - Rust rot has eaten through the bulkhead in two places. I have a spare brand-new RHD Richard Chassis Bulkhead e-coated and ready for paint for a 300 TDI setup. I will add this to the sale for an additional $2,000. Alternatively, you can buy a bulkhead repair panel and have it welded on and resprayed (a couple hundred bucks). - There are some panel dents and the roof gutter in the rear right corner needs some repair, all of it appears salvageable though- There is plenty of surface rust on the chassis, but so far I have not found any rot/eaten-through areas after going around the chassis with a screw driver and banging on the metal to test it. My plan was to just sand it down and repaint it during a restoration, I was not planning to replace this chassis. - The underside of the bonnet where it meets the slam-panel is almost totally rotted out. I have not yet found a replacement steel frame, so you'll probably want to buy a new bonnet (couple hundred dollars, I can provide a contact). - The doors have some minor bubbling showing on the bottom side of one or two of them but appear totally salvageable for restoration, although the rear door needs to be replaced eventually and is not salvageable (except the glass and window wiper).
