Description: Rare AOR 3.102 Grateful Dead San Diego Poster Size 17⅝" x 22⅝" This RARE issue was produced for the Grateful Dead, Canned Heat, Santana, Lee Michaels, and Tarantula playing at the Aztec Bowl at San Diego State University on May 11th, 1969. It is likely that very few examples were originally printed. A non-CGC example previously sold for $2,024.00 in a non-PAE auction. That is the only other example we've seen surface online! This difficult-to-find poster was used for one show at the Aztec Bowl in San Diego, California on May 11, 1969. Canned Heat, the Grateful Dead, Lee Michaels and Santana appeared, along with a local act, Tarantula. This poster, which had a very low print run, almost never shows up In 1969, the music scene was ablaze with iconic bands, each leaving their mark on the era. The Grateful Dead, known for their improvisational and genre-blending style, were captivating audiences with their legendary live performances. Canned Heat, with their energetic blend of blues and rock, brought a raw and soulful intensity to the stage, exemplified by their hit "On the Road Again." Meanwhile, Santana burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut album, fusing rock, Latin rhythms, and mesmerizing guitar solos, making them a standout act of the year. Collectively, these bands embodied the diverse and experimental spirit of the late '60s, shaping the musical landscape for years to come. In his early years, Hedgecock was an entrepreneur and worked in music concert promotions. One notable co-production of his was the 1969 Mother's Day concert at Aztec Bowl (now the site of Viejas Arena, San Diego State University). Performers included Canned Heat, Grateful Dead, and Santana.
