Description: RARE 1960 Rolex Oyster Explorer 1016 36mm Gilt Chapter Ring Swiss Only A chance to own a super rare piece of Rolex history. This is the most iconic explorer known within Rolex, with this version being the very first produced. It features a gilt, chapter ring gloss dial that over time has taken on more of a matte appearance. This is the ‘Type 1’ dial being the very earliest SCOC produced after the very small run of OCC dials. The hands are later and have had the lume matched to the dial, though this is common among these early 1960 versions. The watch picks up a Geiger reading of around 1 uSv/hr meaning radium is present within the dial lume. Watch is running well as shown on the timegrapher. No service history, no box, no papers. Condition is as pictured. Watch is provided as head only (pictures on bracelet for reference on 78360) but can be put on a bracelet if discussed first, I have 7836 or 78360 bracelets which fit to this watch.
