Description: Here's an original 1870s hand blown glass target ball.... It is called a "target ball" by collectors because it was used as a target by throwing it into the air. Although this ball is empty, originally it was filled with feathers which flew out into the air when hit by a shotgun pellet showing the spectators that it was a successful hit. This ball is unembossed....Hand blown in 3 part mold....very crude thin flared lip...golden amber...2 7/8"tall....(2 1/2"diameter)......Perfect condition with no chips or damage (except for the usual roughness on the thin flared lip).....I wonder if this target ball could have been used in one of the wild west shows that toured the country back in the 1880s?....
