1859 ROBERT BALL HUGHES PYROGRAPHY PANEL DON QUIXOTE Newly Discovered Sept 2024

Description: Being offered for sale is this newly discovered, undocumented antique 1859 Pyrography Panel (Wood Burning Artwork), done by the renowned 18th Century English sculptor Robert Ball Hughes (born-1804 died-1868). The subject is Don Quixote sitting in his study with his dog by his side. The original etching that this was copied after was done by Tony Johannot, who was an artist who also lived in the early 19th century. I have included a digital photo of that etching in this listing for viewing. The etching was published in a book about DonQuixote in the early 1800`s. Before the discovery of this panel, there was only one other different panel of Don Quixote done by Ball Hughes, and it is documented in the E-Museum of Pyrography online. This is a 9" x 11" panel. It is signed B.H. for Ball Hughes in the lower right corner on the front. The back side has one of his typical right ups that he would put on his panels. It reads: This Sketch Of DonQuixote Was Burned With A Poker, Boston 1859, B.H. Fecit. These wood burning works of art were done by him in the later years of his life. I have sent photos of this to a person who was once affiliated with the E-Museum and was very familiar with Ball Hughes Pryrography, and I was told that there was no need to doubt that is authentic. I just recently discovered this panel an old house located in the Mohawk Valley area of New York State.
