This volume contains a prologue and biographical note of the author, and Book V and VI of Gargantua and Pantagruel. This volume was previously owned by Lady Cecilia Isabella Finch, an important eighteenth century noblewoman who served as the First Lady of the Bedchamber to Princess Amelia of Great Britain, the daughter of King George II. Her bookplate can be found to the front pastedown. CONDITION In full contemporary calf binding. Externally, some shelf wear and rubbing, and cracking to the front joint and head and tail of the rear joint. Bookplate of Lady Cecilia Isabella Finch to the front pastedown. Internally, hinges lightly strained. A few lights spots to the pages, which are otherwise bright and clean.
